Layla: It's Time

I've made the decision to send Layla on gently and at home. She really isn't "there." She eats, she goes, but she needs to be carried everywhere. Her sleep is disturbed, and she's started having nightmares. This morning, she failed the bacon test. I'll bring her to church for Pentecost Sunday, and next week our beloved vet will come to help her across.

I'm at peace with my decision. It feels right. I wanted to let you all know, as you have been my support for sixteen years.

It is the most difficult decision we have to make for our furry loved ones. I am impressed that you have not only made the decision you feel is best but that you have been able to come to peace with it. Our hearts and souls will be with both of you over the next few weeks, and beyond.

Chris, you and Layla are so bonded that you certainly know what she would most want. And it sounds like she most needs peace now. Bless you for honoring her and your years together with a peaceful passing, and having the strength to give it to her. We send you all our love and comfort, and gentle pats to precious Layla. :hugs

As others have so eloquently stated, your bond is so strong and your compassion so large, that you sense it is Layla's time. Your devotion to each other has been an inspiration to all of us at Sheltie Nation. Seeing you both in Paris and knowing all the support she has given to others over the years is so heartwarming.

Gentle pats to your sweetest girl. I just wish I could wrap my arms around you to console you. After Beckon's recent passing this seems so unfair. Although your heart is saddened. They will be together at the bridge. Please accept virtual hugs from me with loving support from Baron, Beau, and Liam.

It's so hard, good for you to be at peace with your decision, we were too with Sandstorm.

I wish I knew the right words to say but I don't.You and Layla have been an inspiration and I have loved hearing about your travels and adventures. You both are living life to the fullest. I want to thank you for sharing that with us
From Teddy, Ron and the rest of our family, please accept our prayers and best wishes to You, Layla and your family during this difficult time.

Chris, this is one of the hardest decisions we are ever faced with. Layla is blessed for your strength to make this decision when you know that quality time
for your precious girl is no longer possible. But knowing you are making the right decision doesn't mitigate the pain of the upcoming loss and my heart goes out to you. You have given Layla the most wonderful and full life that any dog could possibly have...she will be missed by so many whose lives she touched. May the years of memories bring you comfort.
