Our Sheltie, Kipper, was bitten by a large tick when he was a puppy. No vet believed me when he started limping. They said he was boisterous and must have twisted his ankle. Five vets and two states later it was advanced Lyme’s disease and he was five years old. Now he is nine and can barely walk. He takes the maximum allowable dose of Rimadyl, has fevers frequently, and has trouble walking. Have any of your shelties had this? Is there any hope for Kipper? His mind is so sharp and he loves life...he is just in pain and walks like a very slow stiff old man. Any advice would be helpful. I give him two packets of gelatin per day and tried glucosamine, which didn’t seem to help. The thought of losing my little guy just kills me.

Do you think pain killers like Tremodol might help?

Have you tried any type of pet massage therapy?

It sounds just awful for you both. Is there a specialist you can see to try and identify different therapies?

    Acupuncture perhaps? Water therapy?

My elderly Sheltie was walking very stiff and had bone spurs in his spine. The massage treatments did help for a while.
