Missy got a sister! (And it’s not a sheltie)

I’ve been a member for a looong time but haven’t been active in a while. For those who don’t know me, my name is Jess and I live in Texas. I have a now 11 year old bi-black sheltie named Missy. We like to play flyball and frisbee, and dabble in agility for fun (don’t compete). Missy is one of those odd water-loving shelties and last year my parents built a pool at their house, just for her! Not really, but she probably thinks that.

In July, Missy had the shock of her life when I brought home a little sister for her. She’s a blue merle aussie named Roxie. She’s currently almost 8 months old and surpassed Missy in size before she was 6 months old. She’s supposed to be on the smaller side but she keeps growing so who knows! Roxie is currently training in flyball, frisbee, and agility. Mostly just being a puppy though.

Enjoy some pics!

Roxie is a cutie!!!! And looks like Missy is enjoying her little sister.

Congrats on your standing with flyball with Missy! Amazing!!!! When I first came to SN, I loved seeing your pics. We have a new agaility instructor and she is going to hold a flyball training session in March - 6 weeks to get started. She has dogs on a flyball team and she is uber interested to see how Brodie does with flyball. We do agility, but have never competed. I wanted to start but the only person I could get to respond to me is a trainer who is over an hour from me and that's a haul once a week, especially in winter! I may enter a competition on my own, that is SO scary to me, just to see how he does. He is good, fast, I am a mess.

I hope you are able to share a bit more of your life with Missy and Roxie!

Roxie is very cute, I love her coloring. Looks like she and Missy are buddies. Congrats on the new addition.

Oh Missy was initially super grumpy about the puppy. The first night she snapped at her every time the puppy came near. She wouldn’t stay in the same room. I was so heartbroken because I thought she would be accepting of a puppy and she wasn’t. And it’s hard to see your OG dog so upset.

Then we went through this phase where Missy was trying to play with Roxie, but Missy’s barking scared Roxie. It took about 8 weeks before they finally started playing nicely together. Missy has some food aggression that has to be managed, but otherwise they get along great!

Loved the puppy pix- I know that Dixie and Destin will not appreciate a puppy until it's probably 2 years old........

It caught me off guard because she gets along with my parents dog so well. They got her as a 9-week-old puppy and they were instantly friends. People have pointed out that it’s different because I brought a puppy into Missy’s home. I’m glad she eventually came around. Although just a few minutes ago she snapped at Roxie because she jumped on the bed with us. Oh Missy… such a queen bee.
