This past week we had to let our beloved Sketchie go. He came to us at 7 months old, close to starvation and loaded with parasites. In spite of what he had been through in the first months of his life, Sketch was one of the most deeply loving and devoted boys we have ever been blessed to have. He would turn on a dime to respond to literally anything you asked of him. His entire focus in life was to love and please his people. When he was just 7 years old Sketch lost a rear leg to bone cancer and he faced that challenge as he faced everything in life, with courage and calm acceptance...quickly learning to again play his favorite games of ball and Frisbee as well as he had done with 4 legs.

We have loved many dogs, but once in a while you get one that is beyond special and Sketch was one of those extra special ones. The final challenge, the one he sadly couldn't win, was prostate cancer...even though he fought hard to keep going for as long as he could. There are no words that can express how heartbroken we are...but for Sketchie the struggle is over and he can now rest in peace.

Trini I can't believe my eyes, that you have lost yet another beloved Sheltie. I well remember the trauma of his amputation but also the way he (and you) persevered. I did not know his back story though; who would starve a Sheltie puppy????

I do understand about how special he was to you; he sounds like a dream dog to have in your life and be loved by. I have deeply loved all my Shelties over the years, and yet I know some are just extra, extra special. This was Brooke, for me. I am shedding tears over your loss, truly they take a piece of our hearts with them and the hole is so jagged and sharp. I wish you the blessings of his sweet memory to carry you through this awful time. Many, many hugs. :hugs

I am so very sorry for your loss. It sounds like Sketch had a fabulous life with you. Shelties should live forever, although they do in our hearts.

    Run free, Sketch!!
Kip and I send hugs and Sheltie kisses

Oh Trini, you've been through so much heartache. What a beautiful strong boy, what amazing resilience he must have had. It's truly heart-warming that after having been treated so badly so young he could still have that much faith and love to give his humans. And you too, are such an amazing woman, so much heart to give these little ones that have been through so much. How are you managing? :hugs

Dear Trini, my sincere condolences on the loss of sweet Sketch. I too remember when he was diagnosed with cancer and had his leg removed. You have been there for him every step of the way! He, in turn, understanding your deep dedication to him return the love and devotion.
We are indeed blessed to have that one special dog in our lives. Mr Chance was mine. So, I deeply understand that a part of your soul has been torn away. The hurt is profound. But, we would never be able to imagine our lives without gifts these rescued dogs bring to us! Our lives are more fulfilled because they were in it. Please accept my virtual hug and prayers of blessings for your loss. You are the strongest woman I know, rescuing so many that no one else cared about! You are an inspiration! G
