Pico goes on a diet...

So after I got back from trip, I had a lingering cough for a month so walks were shorter.
Pico gained weight (I could tell) and I finally walked to PetFoodExpress and weighed him
20lbs :(

He isn't fat, but his ribs aren't very prominent anymore. I like him closer to 19lbs.
So today we walked 12 miles!
They closed (permanently) the great highway in SF (about 2 miles of it that runs along the ocean).
It had been closed on weekends for years; they have had to sweep off the sand continually and eventually the sand dunes will take over more and more.
Pico loved the cold overcast summer weather... the long walk not soo much LOL

on a happy note, Pico is pretty well trained to jump into my arms on command.
He likes getting hugs :)

well, I just got back from a trip to Patagonia where 12 miles was a short day LOL.

Pico has done 9 mile hikes before. And not in the cool and breeze weather of Ocean beach in SF.

But this wasn't intentional (the out and back on the new park/closed road of the great highway we did was longer than I thought).

We did 9 miles in the morning and 3 miles in the evening. I got plenty of kisses this morning so no damage done

Piper won’t…and I mean SPITS out immediately…green peppers. Absolutely detests them! It’s funny because there are no other veggies he doesn’t like!
He doesn’t even attempt to chew them, it hits his tongue and out it comes haha.
That is a long walk but at least it was broken up! At that rate it won’t take long for him to drop a pound!

I figured they are crunchy so he'd like them, but nope!
Pico is being a bit lazy today, but I'm OK with him needing a recovery day :)
He does have a nasty habit of barking for food, even when he's had his dinner he thinks he deserves more LOL. I usually just give him a carrot.

My mom is always complaining that my dogs are still hungryyyy!
At 96 she equates those sad mooching eyes with hunger….i remind her that for Finnie’s last birthday I made him a meat cake and he ate soooo much he threw up! So it’s not about the amount I feed them because they will eat until they are sick! Even my vet was surprised…she’s more used to that in retriever’s!
Never trust a Sheltie’s lying eyes:ROFLMAO:

Pico just brings me his food treat dispensers. I have the little food balls (I feed him kibble that way); he will bring those to me in the evening. I have a toy that you wrap kibble in (Or cheerios in); that he brings me in the morning. It's obvious he is asking for more food, but it rarely works LOL
