Potato chips, huh?

Everyone knows SunChaser or Judy from the Mid Florida Sheltie Rescue. Well, long story short(actually not that long), we are bringing home a rescue from one of her fosters! I'm going to pick her up tomorrow.

Her current name is Paisley, but we may end up changing it. She has been taken off the site, or I would post it for everyone to look. I PROMISE pictures asap. From what I understand, Paisley was part of a cruelty case. Someone had 50 dogs and rabbits in one house. I will get the story from Judy again tomorrow - it breaks my heart every time. Paisley has had puppies before, so you can imagine what her life was like. She is about 4 years old and is a big girl - 25 lbs and tall. (I'll measure her, too.) I would call her a sable merle, color headed white. Her coloring is very unique (I know, I know... pictures!!). She is sweet, shy, and calm.

We went to meet the fosters with our boys, who were very well behaved the whole time. Duncan got a bit nervous after an hour or so. While Judy was showing me her awesome grooming table and techniques for paws and poop chute, Paisley brought DH a bone and set it in his lap. She gave him a few kisses. That's when she had his heart. I was happy because she had already been my favorite from just looking on the website. I can tell she's going to be a daddy's girl!

It came down to just needing to get Duncan fixed - which is happening today! Barbara and Judy do an amazing job with the Shetlies they rescue. They made sure that the dog we wanted was a good fit for our family, that we are responsible dog owners, and that Paisley will be well taken care of for the rest of her life. The fact that we don't have a fenced in yard didn't eliminate us from the running. It did narrow down the choices to weed out the major flight risks. Of course she will still be a flight risk, but her temperament is compatible with our lifestyle. It going to be a great pleasure to show her the joys of life as a Sheltie whose biggest worry is "where'd I leave that bone?"

 

Thanks, guys! I forgot something. She has a very short coat for a Sheltie. Looking at her pictures, I had thought she was Duncan's age to maybe a year. Judy thinks (and I have to agree, having seen her in person) that a smooth haired collie is in the mix somewhere. She is definitely predominately Sheltie, but it is possible that she isn't a purebreed. Not that I care, however it is interesting about her coat.

Hehehe!!! That's funny. I think we're going to combo with her for a bit, but it has been decided that if we do agility - I handle Duncan and he handles Paisley (or whatever names becomes her). After putting Pierre through 5 classes (including one repeat), we have realized that he would not like agility. I am considering pursuing therapy work with him, since his favorite thing to do in the world is sit in someone's lap. But you have to recognize the dog's strengths. For Pierre, he is what he was bred to be - a (French) lap dog.
