Puppy Show Grooming

I have a picture for you - that´s my boy with some "Plush Puppy - Pufffy Dog in his ruff" He has a nice shiny coat - right now - so I´ll think about your advice tofu pup.

Photo of my boy here.

He´s a mix of british and american bloodlines - but his british ancestors clearly have the upper hand XDD

I know I know - if it´s a good judge... but most go by the amount of coat. Hopefully not in puppy class - but I´m starting in intermediate on Sunday too. Well - we´ve got nothing to hide - his gait is well enough - and he´s got good show results thus far... maybe if I tell myself that often enough I start to believe.
It´s just that there are some popular kennels which win EVERY TIME - and my dog´s not from on of them - if you know what I am trying to say...

I´m not going to bath him until Wednesday before the show.

Oh wow, is that how he looks right now? That's a lot more coat (and a much nicer coat!) than I was expecting, based on your earlier posts. You're definitely on the right track. He looks very cute.

Don't forget to trim those ears, though... :wink2:

He looks great, freya! Very handsome boy. His coat looks in wonderful condition...I don't think you have to worry about that! But yes, an ear trim is in order before show time.

He´s got his jungle ears right now (and other parts) - I´m waiting for a professional hand with scissors aka my friend. Thank you so much for your praise! I give him some really good oil and brewer's yeast. So far it´s been a good developement - his hair has gotten stronger and shinier. Don´t forget though that I already used some Puffy Dog foam in this picture.
Hopefully I can persuade a friend to make a video of me handling Robin. I bet it would be rather curious for you to see an Austrian Dog Show. It would be interesting to discuss differences.

Right now all I´ve got to do is order those products.

You have really helped me so far! :biggrin2::biggrin2:
Let´s see how much of the coat will be left in 19 days. :wink2:

And we are still trying to learn how to stand still while the judge touches him - he hates being touched by a stranger - even if I tried to change that (with treats from strangers). He is not hostile or anything like that - just really really uncomfortable. On top of that the judge is male. I´ve found myself some challenges in this show! lool But now I fell confident that it will turn out okay.

Look>> Thats one of our opponets: Thats a furrball and he is younger. Not my face, though - well see for yourself.

Oh wow, I was just browsing this thread for grooming tips and I clicked on the links to Ciro and Amberblaze. They are GORGEOUS!!!!!!

What type of brush do you recommend since a slicker may not always be needed?

Amberblaze seems to have more of the European look, from my limited experience. Your boy looks more American. I do like his look better!

Most judges are considerate with dogs, especially puppies, who are a little shy to the touch. I hope that's the case with yours. Please do video...it would be great fun to see you show!

Here in Europe the Mason Pearson brush is a must for any Sheltie or Rough Collie owner.
It´s expesive but worth it. Even though I just realised that it´s way more expensive for you. I paid about 40 € for my pocket with nylon and bristle. I´ll never go without it again!

I love Madan pin brushes. I don't know if you can find them there, but they're great...easy to hold, and not expensive. I do use a slicker to finish too. Here's a link for the Madan brushes. You could always ask if she'll ship.

Thanks for the link, they look like great brushes, I went to the site and ordered one, it seems they ship everywhere. I ordered the oblong "red" it is medium bristle I beleive, says it is good for "drop coated" breeds, what is drop-coated"?

Everyone here is so helpful, I feel silly at times asking so many seemingly silly questions, but I so want to learn all I can.:hugs

Medium is perfect, that's what I use. I also have a soft one for after baths that I like. And two for my tack box, and one for the kitchen....you get the picture, I love these brushes!

A drop-coated breed is one like the Bearded Collie, Havanese, Afghan or Silky Terrier. They have a straight coat that "drops" and flows. There is no question that's silly! We're all here to share and learn.
