question about boys

as in when do they sexually mature?
I know that girls can have their first heat before 12 months but when do I need to be careful with Davy around intact girls?
Destin would have been a great stud dog- he always knew when girls (other breeds) that belonged to friends were coming in- both when he was intact and since he got neutered.
He's currently showing interest in my friend's girl puppy who is older than Davy but I wondered when they can't be left together unsupervised?
 
I have always read and been told that males can reach sexual maturity at 6 to 9 months with some breeds as early as 5 months.While very large breeds can take up to 12 months.

that's what I was afraid of.....
my friend's girl is a month older than Davy so 7 months.
over the weekend, Destin was showing interest in her and of all the boy dogs that I have had, he's very aware of the girls- even though he's neutered.
so I was wondering how much longer we can let them play without us having to keep an eye on them at all times- seems like they will need chaperones from now on:gaah:eek2::rolleyes2::uhoh:
