So last night he ran over 3 jumps triggered the box (didn't catch the ball) and then back over 3 jumps  He did this without losing his focus at the end for once. Of course we both got in trouble with teacher though

Early on he triggered the box and missed the ball it went way off to the side. He went and got it but did not go over the jumps on the way back since he was a long way out of line. I gave him a cookie for all the effort and got scolded for treating when he didn't do the jumps

Next he was trying to chase a dog running while on leash. He turned and started to dart and suddenly realized there was a new dog right there. A REALLY large German Shepherd who was mouth open waiting for the Sheltie snack. Sca threw the brakes on in time but before I could stop her the owner had scolded the poor GS. He wasn't aggressive and Sca was running like he was going up and over (or through). They were both buddies a few seconds later though (Sca likes everyone).

Well not being bad enough we were off in the corner playing with a new bulldog or pit (not sure the breed) and they zipped off to visit the guy training on the box.... yep we got in trouble on that one.

Overall though he is close to getting it. Still needs to learn to catch the ball as it comes out and he needs cheater wings on the first jump to get him inline on the return. Finally getting close to clean runs. This is the first thing he did not pick up immediately (well that and stay off the couch)

Yep I might have to bring the camcorder one time. Class is a hoot. Pre-class is chaos with everyone running free (well there is a couple that don't because they are cranky or unsure of themselves) Then the exercises. Likely I would only be able to get the runs part as I am busy and to delay for setup would be asking a lot. Hmm I feel a plot coming on....

I also need to get going on my timer project. I am struggling on getting the IR receiver to trigger right, if I can get that going I would make progress but

Sounds as though Sca is really coming along well !!!

I have flyball envy.... We've dabbled in it at a friend's house. One or two of her dogs (an Aussie and a whippet) are on a team. Snap loves to run, jump, and retrieve; and has a static box turn, but that's it for the moment.

Am I reading between the lines that you have a box ?

Nope I looked as he has a bunch of other stuff but almost any real box is a bit pricey. We go to Decatur on Monday to flyball class with the Decatur Kennel Club (HOTC has a team but hooking up with HOTC was too difficult). If we run it would be with Decatur. Oh and they are less formal so a better fit for us than the more focused teams.

If I made a timer it would be for fun and then I would just donate it to the club so they can practice timed starts. Semi pro and pro systems are big bucks.

Thats fantastic progress. Teaching a sheltie to run away from you is really hard and its an even bigger ask for them to turn and come back over the jumps when all they want to do is run to you. The ball often bounces of Deska's nose and it took a very long time (and a lot of roast chicken) to teach him that he has to come back over the jumps no matter what.

You will definately have to work on his running off to other dogs when working - you're going to get carded before you even get in the ring!

Do you have a turning board? They are pretty easy to make for practising and you can just use velcro to stick the ball on to the board. Otherwise I am sure Sca wouldnt mind using your walls as a turning board;)

That sounds great Sheep! WTG Sca!!!!:biggrin2:

I'm still trying to persuade the young trainer at my club that we really need a flyball group and to develop a team. There is no team in East Anglia at all!!!

She is tempted, I can tell:wink2:
