    How about 3!!!

Back on June 23rd the front page of Sheltie Nation was Dottie, a special needs Sheltie from the Second Chance Sheltie Rescue in St. Louis. The moment I saw her I knew I had to have her, but I just didn't see a way for it to work out, with me being in Florida and her in St. Louis.

A week or so later I was telling friends about her and they told me they were going to St. Louis on vacation. They were driving and would be thrilled to bring her back to her forever home if I wanted them to.

I still didn't think it was possible. I was sure the rescue would not do an out-of-state adoption. They wouldn't be able to do a home visit or arrange for Dottie and I to meet ahead of time. But I wrote to them and told them about myself and my current babies. The contacted Mid-Florida Sheltie Rescue, from whom I adopted Cooper and my vet and .......voila!!!! I was approved.

At the latest my new little girl will arrive the first week of August. I'm already in love with her from all the emails and pictures I've received from her foster mom, who by the way ADORES her! Apparently Dottie is a sock thief. This is my favorite picture so far. Can't you just see the caption: "Sock? No I haven't seen your sock!"

    Check Dottie out at http://www.sheltie4me.com/animals/detail?AnimalID=3433034#animalOtherPictures.

I'm going to change her name to Dollie, which means "Gift from God." I truly believe that is what she is!

Oh how cute. The whole story brought tears to my eyes for you both. What a happy ending. If you don't mind me asking what are her special needs?

She is a breast cancer survivor. The mammary tumor was a non-aggressive cancer and was fully removed, but she will need ex-rays every 6 months for 2 years. She also has some serious arthritis and is on medication. The third thing is she was shot in the foot by an abusive boy and her foot was not treated. She lost a toe and a weight bearing toe healed crooked. So she walks with a limp.

According to the rescue she was a breeder surrender. Obviously not a reputable breeder as they were breeding a dog who has serious joint issues. They did not treat her breast cancer, that was done after being rescued and they didn't care enough to treat her foot injury. They think she was a good mommy though because she has taken to a 5 month old pup at her foster home. :wink2:

When I saw her I just thought "No one is going to want her." My heart just broke for her. When I was telling my friends about her the husband said, "Oh, she needs you!" That's what I thought too and now we'll get to be together. I just want her to have the best rest of her life possible.

I read about her a couple weeks back on a rescue website. I was so sad reading her story. She got shot in the foot:mad: She has entered my mind many times since reading about her. And now she is going to your wonderful home!! I am so happy!!!
