Vision Of A Sheltie

For some that may have seen the shelties with a giraff looking neck, is this something new that came out of a vision or what? I have seen the pictures and the seller would note giraff neck. The last sheltie I just seen on a picture for sale the seller didn't mention the neck being giraff.

Its not only the neck but its also emphasized with the way the sheltie is trimmed. I'm not attempting to offend anyone with this look, its their vision, but its really a different one to me that is on a sheltie. If you look real quick, they look like a itsy bitsy lama. Just kind of shocked me at first.

I look because I like to see how the shelties are trimmed up. Its interesting how some of the shelties are presented in those pictures.

Do you mean with an arched neck?

Can you link a picture?

Since its the breeder's picture one can't copy, so I will stick to their rules.

Sent you a PM where to find the sheltie. No arch just straight up. This picture is not to the extreme as others I have seen, but the effect is still a longer neck then most of the shelties seen.

If a sheltie is in its first year the neck appears more elongated because the ruff fur has not grown in yet....I don't know of anyone who would elect to trim the ruff back just to make the neck appear long as that's just the opposite of the sheltie silhouette. Also, some shelties are more stocky in the neck, others have a longer neck.

In Collies, they call them fluffies. The dogs have upright fronts with ewe necks stuck on top, so the ears are over (or behind!) the front feet. It's not functional, but it's showy and seems to win. I have no use for dogs with those kind of structural faults.

I once saw a Standard Poodle whose handler kept putting her hands under him and poking his chest up. It turns out that his front legs were so far in front of his chest that his whole chest was sinking behind the front legs. His neck was set behind his front legs (well, everything was behind his front legs), and that look was exacerbated by the handler jamming the head further over his back, while she was hyper-extending his rear and prodding his chest back up. I hope she got paid well, it was a lot of work to keep the dog standing.

This thread was moved but I don't know where. I messed up I quess. I thought this was just off track with the shelties neck. I apologize.

Thanks for the info. Awhile back the shelties were listed as Giraff Neck, and they were longer then this one. This sheltie wasn't put out there as a Giraff Neck, but close enough.

I just thought, is this a vision, fad, or what is going on? My two I quess are short necks, they never had that look about them, but they are little.

Ever since they had a great interview with a breeder awhile back and his vision which to me was excellent. I look at the cuts, look for interviews and wonder sometime, whats this about?

Thanks, and sorry (wrong post place)

I found you! Thanks for moving this in the correct place. Testing to see if I have your attention, just kidding with yas.

Believe me I am sorry, just one more job you had to do. I said my $25 is a drop in the bucket for the year taking care of us, and keeping us straight.
I'll make certain you have a better week.

Not a problem; it's what we mods are here for. We try to sort threads into the most-appropriate categories, if necessary. That way, when someone comes along with a similar question, they might be able to find the answer by browsing the categories.

Thanks for keeping me straight! I have said this and I'll say it again, my $25 a year is worth every penny to babysit all of us (me), just a drop in the bucket for all you gals do. I was wondering about a sheltie's neck not thinking category, my head was where it didn't belong.

I wish I could see what you mean by Giraffe neck!

I nick name Indy "Danny Devito" because he's neck is pretty short and compact to his body.

Bacca, on the other hand, is long and lean all around....including his neck. At the whithers, both dogs are within 1/2" of each other...but Bacca is so much taller because he does have a longer neck.

Here's a picture of both the boys in profile so you can see the difference. In addition, Indy is fluffier so his neck is also less pronounced. Bacca's fur tends to lie on the flatter side
