Here we are, 7 weeks out of surgery, and Benson is still needing miralax everyday and straining somewhat even with it. First time ever he pooped in the house overnight. Miralax can make quite a mess. So I'm getting concerned. The vet's response to my concern after this much time has passed with no improvement and should he be xrayed:

I would def give it some more time....xray after 12 weeks would be appropriate. Please continue what you are doing, as it sounds like he is doing well overall.

This is both relief and disheartening. 5 more weeks perhaps.
So if anyone needs to know, the enlarged prostate takes a long time to shrink!

:( Is Benson bothered by any of it?
I guess lots more poopy bum washes in your future.

I can’t imagine how frustrating this must be for you Margi! Have you noticed any improvement at all in the past 7 weeks?
I really hope things improve soon!

I don't think so, except it takes him a long time to go. His bum is trimmed pretty good so its not him needing the wash but he has a penchant for hitting the flagstone and the patio as he poopwalks his way across the yard. Plus drips and drabs constantly inside. Its not his fault so I don't get mad at him!

I have cut his miralax down from 1/2 tsp to heaping 1/4 tsp and it appears he is still able to go every day without pain per se but still some straining. I never want to have to watch him in that much pain again so Im erring on the side of caution here! He is no longer interested in the girl's behinds on our dog walk, so I think the testosterone is gone, now just awaiting shrinkage!

Oh man I'm so sorry. How frustrating. I wonder if there is a dog version of saw palmetto which men often take. Is FIL neutered?

I know this is tough with it dragging on so long.

Fillion was neutered at about 2yrs old, in keeping with my pet contract, and at the same time I took Koko in because he was bleeding from the penis.
I figured it was best to have them both needing to be quiet at the same time. Guess I don't have good luck with intact males!
