I'm going to split this into two posts as it's longer than will interest some.

We went up to visit with my wife's parents, in their nineties. It's about a four-hour drive, four and a half to five if you stop to eat anywhere. This was the longest trip for traveling in her new car seat. Willow was terrific both up and back with only one incident marring the trip up. As we were driving Willow let out a scream, not a whine, not a whimper but an honest to goodness scream.

I pulled off the road into a parking lot of an A&W right away and I rushed to see what was wrong. Somehow the tether that clips to the harness and seat belt had got wound and wound around her leg. It was twisted dozens of time into a virtual tourniquet. Her fur was dragged into the wrap and her legs were pinned.

She screamed when I tried to take it off but never tried to bite or resist me. I managed to relieve the pressure by undoing the seat belt and unclipping the harness so I could unwind the tether. Once freed she snuggled up on my shoulder and in seconds she was back to normal, walking around on her lead and harness without any sign that she'd ever had a problem. She's pretty stoic in general and not a complainer but her recovery was so good to see.

We decided to take a break and mend our shattered nerves which didn't recover as fast as Willow's great nature reasserted itself. She got a bit of sandwich as she sat so beautifully at our picnic table with us. One of the staff from the restaurant came out when she saw Willow and gave her a paper cup full of cold water. That was nice of them.

Fortunately, that was the last bad thing on our journey. After that, the harness and tether for her seat worked flawlessly. The rest of the drive was without incident and I was happy to see that Willow had no reluctance to use her car seat. She loves riding in it and didn't let that unfortunate tangle dampen her enthusiasm for it.

Once we reached North Bay, where we were staying, we had some lovely walks. We had two main routes, one streamside and one lakeside. Here are some pictures of the walkway along Lake Nipissing.

What a frightening experience that must've been Glen, I'm so glad Willow wasn't put off her comfy bed because of it!
Is that the bed she's laying on that she's tethered to? It's looks very comfortable, where did you get it?
Lovely pictures, that water looks so inviting...so hot here, I'd like to jump in lol!

The above link should take you to the one I purchased off Amazon Canada. The car seat has a little drawer in front for storing things. I stash combs, an extra lead, treats and other items that seem useful to be easily reached. It's dead simple to install it, you just belt it in and then snap the tether to the seat belt and then to your pup's harness.

Oh my goodness - what a fright that must have been! In all our years with the seat, we've never had an issue. We used to do both doxies in it and now only have Brodie (Kooper is not a huge fan of leaving the house) but he goes in and lies down immediately. I am happy that she was unharmed and unfizzed by the experience.

Thank you for sharing your pics. I am always stunned by Willow - I think she is just beautiful!

Your pictures are terrific, Glenn, thanks for sharing them! Willow looks like she's having a great time. I'm glad the trip was good after that freak accident...how frightening that must have been. The car seat looks comfortable and she certainly looks happy there. I'm glad there were no ill effects from the incident and you enjoyed the rest of the trip! Look forward to Part Two!
