    Hi all
Our sheltie, Skye, is 10 weeks old and we have had her for 2 weeks now.
She hasn't taken to barking at noises/ sounds/ people which I'm very happy about, but she barks a lot when she knows her food is coming. She generally wakes up around 6am and wants food right away and will bark until she gets it. We live in a condo so I want to try minimizing barking as much as possible.
She will also be around the kitchen and sometimes bark if we are just in there cooking or prepping food for ourselves. She is well fed but is still very food orientated we are noticing.
What we have tried so far:
    - we never give her any food that isn't her food
    - we have tried using the words "quiet" and "shh"
    - we have tried crossing our arms, turning around and ignoring her
    - we have tried not giving her food while she's barking (but since we're in a condo we can't let the barking go on for too long)
These have only worked temporarily and only sometimes

We are looking for suggestions on how to curb this barking!

Hi! Your sheltie reminds me of my 11 wk old pup, Toby! I have never had a puppy so in love with food! He also barks for his food. I see the date on your post and wonder if you've had any success since then??

We used a small spray bottle of water.

Skye is so young and now has to learn how things are happening in your home.

You must do it in a loving way so that she teaches it properly and not with punishment
-it does not teach anything - actually only to be uncertain about you.

It's not very different than a baby, they cry when they're hungry, we give them food - not "punishment"

At first, I might try to divert the behavior example with a toy
When Skye is busy with this and forgotten the food, you could throw a few pills from her food on the floor that she should find. (you has put them ready in the evening)
When pills are found and eaten, food is put down to her.

    Only imagination sets limits.

I’ll admit it. This is one of those battles I chose to let go. Dinner time is loud at my house haha!

I hear ya! It's a battle I chose not to fight - kind of regret it now - exactly because of the hotel issue! I vow to address it one of these days........

my hotel solution is to premeasure everyone's food into individual labelled baggies which get poured into their bowls and then dinner is served.... since there's not the time involved in actually getting the bag of dog food, measuring etc, it seems to reduce the issue:winkgrin:

I actually feed raw and have everything pre-measured out as well. But I do have to separate my dogs before eating (since they decided they were going to try to kill each other over food) and as soon as that happens they know the food is coming!!!!!
