Favourite things to do in agility class?

Hi Everyone, I'm looking for some ideas for things to add into a specific agility class. The class has four people in it, all experienced competitors (to varying degrees though), and all four have high drive dogs. In my classes, I like to mix up a bit of handling (usually one new "tool" per...

    Puppy = Change in Dynamics

Consider stress as well. Dogs find it difficult to play when they are under stress (whether or not we humans recognize it as stress). It took Starr about 3 weeks to accept Wycked, and it took Seren about 5 weeks. It will come - just keep doing what you're doing :-). Tara

Recommendations for a wet food brand for my shelties?

You might want to check into The Honest Kitchen. It's a dehydrated food, but you add water so it becomes a "wet" food. My dogs love it, and physically they look better than they ever have.

    An Update...

Thanks! This has been a dream of mine - we run "pet" and "performance" programs, competition classes (obedience, rally, tracking, and agility), canine conditioning, and specialty classes (tricks, recalls, free shaping, crate games etc.), so there really is something for everyone at every stage...

    An Update...

Hi Everyone, I haven't been online for a looooooooonnnnnggg time, so I thought I should give a (very) quick update of what we've been up to. 1. Serendipity trialed in agility!!!! This was huge for her - she's 8 years old now (7 when she trialed). She was rescued at the age of three, and...

To neuter or not to neuter?

Sigh...I had reworked my reply above and put more thought into it...but it was past the 60 minute limit. So here's the quick summary: Here's two threads that may interest you as you are making your decision. There are pros and cons no matter what you decide, but as long as you are acting in...

To neuter or not to neuter?

I'm a strong advocate of delayed neutering. If you look through the threads, you will find many that detail the pros and cons, and many posters have provided excellent studies to back up their arguments (both for and against). Ultimately, it came down to the research for me. I'm a researcher by...

Spaying/Neutering Vido - Dr. Karen Becker

I know there's a lot of discussion about the advantages/disadvantages of neutering or spaying, and I thought this is an interesting resource. Whether you agree or disagree, it's good to be informed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enPCZA1WFKY&feature=youtu.be

    Trialing outside in the rain

This has been a hard decision for me this year, because of the amount of rain we've had, the scarcity of trials in our area, and the distance we have to travel for trials. Our local trial is outdoors, as is the next closest trial (4.5 hours away). After that, we're travelling between 6-8...

    Big News...

I haven't been on here much for the past few months, because I've been in the process of fulfilling a dream of mine - opening a dog training business. The facility I was working for closed when the building was sold, and there was an opening in the market. I knew of a space available to...

    USDAA Jump Height Change

I think the new jump height levels the playing field, and is much more fair to the 16.5" dogs (Starr is one). I disagreed with the Performance division being described as "pursuant to special standards of competition that place less emphasis on the dog's physical capabilities." My dog is in...

    Salmon oil...not so good?

I'm just posting this on here for informational purposes since I know many members supplement their dogs' diets with Salmon Oil and it's also an ingredient in many foods and treats (I had no idea how common it was until one of my dogs developed an allergy to fish - it's in about 90%+ of foods...
