    Lucky loves the cold!

Well, it's good to know other Shelties are cold weather enthusiasts like Lucky. Honestly, he all but refuses to come indoors for my wife...she has to get me out there to direct Lucky back inside...stubborn he can be indeed. I just had to ask if this behavior was common for other sheltie...

    Lucky loves the cold!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Our sheltie prefers to be out on the deck even when it's in the thirties. Otherwise, he is in our finished basement with a woodstove keeping it cozy. He will sprawl out on the linoleum floor a fair distance from the stove when he is indoors, so I know he rather be...

alternative to wearing "The cone" after surgery??

I spoke with Vet's assistant yesterday, and she warned us to be cautious in using the donut because some dogs can bypass it and scratch the stitches. She said the donut devices are not necessarily the best solution to the use of the traditional cone. Any thought? Bob

alternative to wearing "The cone" after surgery??

The vet didn't give us any particulars only that he was sending the blood sample to the lab for analysis. I ordered a donut cone style collar for Amazon. Thanks to all who replied. Bob

alternative to wearing "The cone" after surgery??

Lucky has a growth under his lower jaw. About the size of a pencil eraser. Lucky has been scratching his lower jaw again anything he can access...he is obviously uncomfortable with this thing. The vet took a blood sample to be analyzed for issues. The results came back, and there are no health...

Lucky has become an early riser...

I'm behind schedule in my reply to this thread I started...my apologies. We eventually cut back on Lucky's snacking during the evening, and as a result he was content with a return to his sleeping all night routine, and that solved the problem thankfully. Bob

Lucky has become an early riser...

Our 6 1/2-year-old Sheltie has been faithful to the same sleep habit for several years. We go to bed about 11:15 pm after watching the late news. Lucky goes out for one last pee or whatever he needs. Then he is back down in the basement and sleeping until 8:00 am on average. This fits with our...

    Lucky lost a dew claw.

Well things have returned to normal. Lucky is busy being himself again, and the foot he held up is back down an in daily use full of running around as was the case prior to my inquiry about the dew claw. He will be at the vet in a few weeks for his annual shots, and I will use that visit to ask...

    Lucky lost a dew claw.

Well that's an interesting question to which I can honestly reply, "I don't know"! I was basically reacting to his holding his left paw up, and the association with dew claw issues that can prompt a dog to do that. If indeed he never had one that would explain the lack of blood. But still leaves...

    Lucky lost a dew claw.

Well for me I have never had a dog with any sort of dew claw problem. That's three collies, and two shelties. Never an issue until now with Lucky...Sheltie number two. I had to google dew claw to gain some familiarity with it. I'm still very much a beginner still, and hoping it turns into a...

    Lucky lost a dew claw.

I'm thinking it's whole structure because when he tolerates my investigation my hand feels a smooth leg and not the bump the other paw has. I have not done a closeup look see because that's probably going to get a reaction from him that's not so friendly. Bob

    Lucky lost a dew claw.

I don't post often, but when I do it is about our 6 year old sheltie "Lucky". He's a good boy, and we love him a lot. So when something seems to be bothering him I will try to find out what's up. We noticed him holding his left front paw up last night, and sort of hopping a little as he...

    Our sheltie won't his water

Lucky is responding to his meds thankfully. But I found out something from my wife. Yes lucky drinks his water again... and I'm happy about that, but can you believe he has a particular bowl he drinks from and no other. We have a set of four bowls all the same color and size...like cereal bowls...
