I have 2 shelties - 3 yr old resued female, and 7 month old male.
For the most part the 2 dogs play REALLY well together. There are times when we see the "ugly face" from the older dog just then the pup walks by, and we have had occassional squabbles. But again, nothing really major.
What I am starting to see more of is the 7 month old beginning to take a dominating role - which doesn't surprise me as the 3 year old has always been very laid back. This behavior starts when they run outside together - the pup grabs on to the 3 yr old and then she starts to snarl and bark really sharply at him, and I can't blame her a bit! If she runs ahead, the pup will grab a hold of her tail and then the tumbling and wrestling starts up. With the tail pulling, I have noticed that the 3 yr old is losing the downy part of her tail and it is starting to look thin!
I am about to the point of having to separate them when they are outdooors and even at times when they are in the house together.
I would like have us all as "one big happy family" but I don't know where to start with the pup to stop the unwanted aggressiveness
Help!
