We have had 7 month old Ranger since Sept when he was 8 weeks old. From the beginning and for several weeks, we were taking him out every 20 minutes when he was out of his crate. (We have crate trained from the beginning ) He had to go that often! His bladder seems to be better now that his bigger, but needs to go out this frequently every morning for the first hour he is awake. His accidents in the house were no more than 1-2 a week.
He was neutered at just over 6 months, and now he is having problems with urinating and defacating in the house mostly in one particular room on an almost daily basis. We have treated the carpet with Nature's Miracle or white distilled vinegar, saturating the area down into the pad. I even moved the furniture around to cover the area, so he went next to the area. I also caught him marking on a chair leg yesterday in another room, which I had not ever seen before. I am afraid that if I block off the room he will just find another place to go.
This is our 4th dog, and we have had such a problem housebreaking a dog, although he is smaller than all the other dogs we have ever had. He shares our home with a larger female, spayed dog. We have spent many months never taking our eye off him and taking him out whenever he went to the door. We also have started using a clicker and click and treat whenever he urinates or defacated outside. It's not getting any better. Sometimes, instead of going to the door and barking, he just sneaks off. i have caught him in the act a few times and have taken him right outside. I have read books and internet searched, and I am writing here because I dont' know what else to do. Looking for wisdom.
