A new leash on life!

After making circles, walking backwards, calling her name, making her sit, she was still pulling during our walks. I was an inch close to getting a choke chain :eek2::dead:, I know, I know, how awful, I DIDN'T. Instead I bought a no pull type of harness and it is already working.

You all have those or use them?

I have used one and it worked great. Except, when I went back to the regular collar, she went back to pulling again.

I was told that when you are ready to transition her back to her normal collar, you should leave the no pull collar on without a leash and use her normal collar and leash. If she starts pulling, immediately switch the leash to the no pull collar. Keep doing that until she gets the hang of it. Then you can take the no pull collar off.

I hope this helps.

Thank you I appreciate the heads up! I may even keep it on her forever if necessary

I tried one on Sage but he ignored it. He hated leashes.. I'm not 100% sure I put it on him correctly. He was very stubbern!

Fortunately, Deja and Darby do ok on leash. They have their moments but all in all they do ok.

I actually have use 2 leashes, one on the training collar/halter or harness and one on a buckle collar. I only use the leash on the piece of training equipment when I need a position change . I use it right for the beginning that way the dog never becomes reliant on the training epquipment. My goal is always to get back to the buckle collar.

Megan is getting much even without the training leash, at least on non-distracting walks. If I take her on a busy street, she still pulls and wants to herd the cars. Soooo, we are taking our time :rolleyes2:.

It's not fair though, she responds almost better to John (DH) on walks!:o

Che did wonderfully to training on the busy street and does not pay attention to the cars anymore. He does pull leash only when he is terribly excited, 95 % of the time he is good on the leash, we mostly use flexi...
he is pretty good off leash too and does heel good for couple of houses lenght of the road
we have "sensible harness" but I rarely use it, only when I know he is going to be very excited, like first class or meeting of new doggies....

I've been using the Sensation harness which clips in the front of the chest. Much like Premier's Easywalk (?) harness but Premier's one looks like a martingale in the front.

Romeo doesn't pull but I like it coz the front of his body and his head will swivel back to me very quickly with this on, and I AM working heavily on attention so anything that will help I will use!! LOL!

But like what Justicemom does, I also interchange my collars and harnesses so they don't become crutches to the dog. These collars and harnesses should just help the dog understand what you want (which you then reward heavily for) and they should be able to give you that behaviour even without it on.
