Achievement for my Little Love

Congratulations to both you and Chauncey - for both your achievements and for providing him a loving home. May you have many happy years together!

Thank you very much. We want to move forward to therapy dog but I think I might wait till it is cooler. The gym we were in was so hot, I had to carry a towel to keep wiping my sweat on my face every 3 minutes, and I am sure it was hot for him too. He hated class, the minute he walked in he turned into a mule for me and did not want to do anything really but we practiced anyway, he was spitting out his liver I cooked before class and I thought that was sure sign he wasn't going to do anything. If his feelings are hurt or he is unhappy about something he takes his treats and spits them out instead of just refusing them.
The tension with so many bosses was too much for me and I was boiling. I was told at our regular dog park the head lady came in and asked about us and told everyone he wasn't doing well and she complained about me to my dog park friends that I didn't give him commands correctly and so on. I was livid and had it out with her last week before class, she denied it but who knows who to believe? I think coming on my turf in my town then discussing my dog and myself with people we see at the dog park is incredibly unprofessional and rude. She never once talked to me about anything, she is the one who pulley system him up and left us hanging there. The other student who INSISTED on giving us advice I have learned is in the class for the second time and she didnt finish or go through the test last night with her dog, so I guess her expertise so true and maybe round 3 she might finish. I thought maybe they will give us a token certificate to make me shut up but there was a new lady I never met who scored and tested everyone and he actually did everything on his test perfectly which funny as it is, the dogs who had no problem in class some had to do several tasks over again as their dog didnt perform them to command. One dog keep rolling over to have his belly rub when he was suppose to sit and stay. I know Chauncey earned it in spite of the heat, the conflicting teachers methods and my unhappiness with them confusing and making accusations. I even took in his doctor paper as he had a corneal ulcer previously sometimes he does wink one eye and that DOES NOT signal he is terrified, to shut them up about that As we were leaving to go home the instructor said I think you should take the class again. She must be crazy, lol. I tried to tell her AGAIN it isnt he cant do these commands , it is he doesnt want to do them here, and since he did every task as asked and without mistakes or a do over I see no reason to put him through this again, then she said well now if you get his weight under control you will have a great dog. ARGHHH the vet said he is NOT overweight, he is idea weight, the groomer said he just fine, HE IS A GREAT DOG, I want to do therapy work but I might need to get him a tshirt that says, I AM NOT FAT I AM FLUFFY!!
Whatever happened to positive reinforcements? Today Pappa went out and bought a certificate frame to hang his paper up, he was so proud and Chauncey got his ride for his ice cream cone today in celebration and we mailed his CGC paper in for that certificate to come. Funny thing the only thing on the CGC class I was worried about was the brushing, thought they would like want a whole body brushing and I was worried about his butt and refusing to let me do it. That turned out the least of issues, we worked that issue out before classes started and the brushing in class was like 2 swipes on his collar, geez louise worried over the wrong thing. Pictures to come this week to share.

Reading about the "instructors" for this class would make me leave the class and find someplace else; which I've actually done because one place I took Edan for classes he completely shut down in. Congratulations on toughing that out.

I hope you can find someplace else to take her for the Therapy Dog training. This training center sounds absolutely horrible.
