Hi everyone, I've moved a question from the OP about vitamins/supplements into the Treats and Supplements forum.

Please try to keep posts on-topic - if you have a new question that might fit better into another category, then please pose your question there. This makes the Forum more helpful to others who might have similar questions in the future.

Thanks!

Congratulations on your new addition!

One thing I have advise on is to make sure that you keep a close eye on her. We have experienced on this forum at least three Shelties that have escaped in the first couple of weeks of being rehomed. They get scared and run. One got out a fence, another broke through a window screen, and another slipped a collar. A martingale collar is a good choice in the beginning because it tightens so that they can't slip it, but does not tighten to the point that it can choke them.

We can't wait to see pictures!

Are you getting your pup from CISR? Who are you getting?
Natalie is usually very good at placing, she did marvelous job with Sammy my BIL pup/, perfect match for Che/ my 1 year old/
Sammy was 6 months, it felt like she did not miss a bit, fit right in and guarded her fence next day.
There are few of us here from close North suburbs of Chicago/ Skokie, Evanston/ so we can have a play date providing some good weather.

We did not get Indie from any of the Illinois Sheltie rescue organizations, we do not have a fenced in yard and we rent, therefore our application was quickly denied. We rescued Indie from Shelter from the Store in Madison, WI. Which is not that far from where we live.

Indie went to our vet this yesterday and the vet says she is very healthy! All of her tests came back normal! We are very relieved because we thought she could have some lingering parasites due to the extensive state she was in from the fleas and mange. But she is doing great! All of her scabs are totally healed or almost healed on her belly and fur is begining to grow!

Our vet said Indie is actually 4 or 5 years old, not 2 as the shelter had previously estimated. Since we have a two year old currently, we weren't surprised, Indie is very calm and laid back compared to our other sheltie.

She is going back in three days to have a professional teeth cleaning and all of her front teeth removed on the top and bottom. She was either kept in a crate or chained up so long that she was chewing on the metal and have worn her teeth down so that the root is exposed. Only one other molar has some decay, so they are going to try see what they can do when they clean them. Also she has another tumor that will be removed at the same time, while she is under the anesthesia.

I have fed Indie by hand the first two weeks on and off and even fed Finley by hand a couple times so she didn't feel left out. Indie is eating well and we have began giving her a little canned pumpkin to help with the #2 issue, and I was shocked at how quickly it helped her system!

Indie and Finley (our 2yr old sheltie) are quite the little pair, they play all of the time. Finley is still warming up a little, all Indie wants to do is snuggle up with her and take a nap, Finley will lay for a bit but as soon as Indie moves slightly or adjusts her position Finley gets up and lays elsewhere. Finley did help quite a bit while we were teaching Indie how to go up and down the stairs. Now Indie loves going up on her own and her tail is just wagging away because she is so proud of herself. She really is beginning to build her self confidence!

Our entire family is bonding so well with Indie and Indie has begun to roll over and let us pet her belly!

We will keep you posted, thank you again for all the wonderful advice!

Congratulations on the new addition. What a great way to start my day, reading this post. I'm so happy she's found a good home.

I'm happy to hear things are going well with Indie and isn't pumpkin amazing?. Most dogs seem to love it to so that's also a plus. I'll look forward to hearing more about Indie as she settles in at your house.
