Today Athena d I qualified for the 2012 AKC agility nationals! I didn't even think about qualifying since finances were tight as of November, and we didn't get to start trialing again until mid-March, but she and I have really clicked recently, and things have gone really well recently. Now I'm thinking about maybe flying out if money looks good at the beginning of 2012 with Athena flying in cabin with me.
She and I started this year with 11 double Qs to our name. After the long break, it took us a while to get it back together as a team... several months in fact. We had a lot of weekends where we Q'd in either jumpers or standard- not both. We ended up finally picking a double Q up in June, and then in July, something special happened. We just really got it together as a team, and everything feels like perfection right now. In 5 trialing days over July and now August, she has picked up 5 double Qs. So far this weekend has been really impressive. She Q'd and took 2nd in standard with 25 MACH points (no more multipliers! Boo!), and then was flying in jumpers. There was a really nasty weave pole entry, yet she nailed it, and wasn't playing around in the weaves once she got them. She ended up winning the class and earning 15 MACH points. I'm just thrilled with how we're working as a team right now.
Now, we're sitting 3 double Qs away from our MACH. I really hope this streak continues. It's so nice when everything is going right like this, and we've worked long and hard to get here. I'd love to get 1 more this weekend, 1 next weekend, and then to finish at my home trial. No guarantees, but it sure would be nice.
