AKC Agility Trail in NY this weekend

Anyone going to the AKC agility trail in Staten Island, NY this weekend (5/8 & 5/9)???

It's one of the first AKC trails where mixed breeds are allowed to compete.

I'm like a 30 minute drive and might check it out.
 
No...we will not be at that show. We will be at Tinicum Park tomorrow and Mercer park on Sunday. Maple is showing in breed.
 
Trials

I will be at the TMAC trial in Westfield Mass. watching and there will be mixed breeds also. The last 2 trials that have allowed mixed breeds there wernt to many.
 
It will be interesting to see how many mixed breeds compete. Here they are allowed to compete as 'associates' but often there are not that many. Either people who have mixed breeds dont go on to agility or most people who do agility get a pure-bred for competition. Now flyball on the other hand is mostly mutts.
 
I've seen a number of mixed breed agility dogs in the non-AKC agility venues - CPE, TDAA, and USDAA.

Because the AKC allowing mixed breeds is new, there may not be many takers yet considering that if they've been doing agility with their mixed breed they are already established and working towards championships in the other venues.

There is also the fact that AKC trials cost more per run than the others trials. I can get 2 runs at a CPE trial for what it costs for 1 run in AKC. That fact doesn't appeal to a lot of people - even those with purebreds who aren't breeding/showing their dogs.

All that being said, it still sounds like a fun weekend.
