Alternatives to Kongs

Kongs seem just too hard for Stella. She is 18 weeks old and I am looking for something to keep her busy. I have tried the puppy version, the adult medium size and stuffing it with treats, peanut butter and spray cheese. She just does not seem interested. Suggestions for a picky chewer?
 
I know what you mean. Miss Sadie didn't like any of the regular stuff. She loves boiled checken breast. If you use the small Kong and smash the chicken in there it may keep her busy. I would watch Sadie and if she didn't get it out and eat it within a half hour or so I'd clean it out. I'm a freak about stuff spoiling in those things. After she knew what it was I would smash up the chicken with some of her regular kibble and that also worked good.
Just keep trying different things.
 
Do you feed her kibble? I made treat bottles for mine to feed them their kibble meals. It was just a PET water bottle with kibble sized holes cut into it so they had to push it around to get their meals from. Cheaper than a Kong and you can adjust the size or number of holes to challenge them or make it easier. Mine much preferred being fed this way and it meant their meals lasted much longer.
 
My girl Julip is 18 weeks today!

We have Kong's for her & just put kibble in them, as I too don't like the idea of not cleaning the inside out properly. But yes she can get the kibble out pretty fast. Once the kibble is out, she never has actually chewed the Kong?

We have a dog ball with circle indents going around the outside of it, that I put cream cheese or peanut butter IN these divots & she has to lick off (again its the outside & its in divots, so the stuff doesn't touch the floor as its more pushed in) Easy to clean after (although she does a great job!)
This ball also has a hole in it to stuff - but again rises the not cleaning it out properly, so it too just gets kibble inside.

Must say with her teething now, she really enjoys just a wet facecloth twisted & then turned into a donut like shape & put in the freezer. Occupies her for awhile! Chewing on it right now! Its free & safe! (Just make sure they aren't eating the fabric :wink2: )

Buffy didn't love Kongs as a puppy but she likes them now. I have tried peanut butter and all kinds of combinations of treats. I look for ones that are just a bit bigger than the opening. Those little milkbones are good, or Stella & Chewy's treats, or really whatever I can find. Sometimes I stick Petrodex dental chewies in there or sweet potatoes wrapped in chicken. If you really want to be an expert stuffer, put something really great at the bottom, like liver, and some easier stuff at the top, like kibble. I have to say that my Kong filling was more ambitious when she was little.

It sounds more like she isn't interested in what's IN the Kong rather than the Kong itself? I usually put canned tripe or good quality dog food in the Kongs. I like to freeze them so they last just that bit longer!

I also would try to feed their meals from anything but a bowl! All meals came through hard work by getting it out of a toy. Love love love food dispensing toys or just good ol' cardboard roll (but just watch that she doesn't eat the cardboard too!)

I use kongs for my dogs but what I do is stuff the knog full of kibble or cheerios and then put a tiny bit of the kong peanutbutter paste at then end so it doesn't get all the way to the top of it and they are always spotless.

As a month old puppy, Pippa just liked chewing old cuddly toys that we had.
Her favourite is still a tiny stuffed dog which has survived 10 years of chewing, had it's ears sewn on over 3 times and it's tail sewn on more than that. It is also missing it's nose! I wonder where that went...
She actually destroyed a puppy Kong toy.
She likes chewing the hard plastic on Ruff Tuff toys and doesn't seem interested in the actual rope bit, so we take them away from her because she other wise gets a runny tummy...
