I think a lot of being able to switch quickly from one dog to the next just naturally stems from years of working horses. I regularly worked 4-5 very different horses daily, and often showed multiple horses at horse shows. Once we leave the ring, and I have praised and put away the dog, I have to drop all thoughts of the previous run and just concentrate in the dog I have in hand. I know all of my dogs very well, and will often walk a course several ways to make adjustments for the individual dogs I am running. They each have their own plan by the time I enter the ring, and I try very hard to stick to it to give the dogs my best.
This past weekend, by the last day, Aurora, Kai, and Athena were all in 12" excellent/masters jumpers, and were maybe 12 dogs apart. I had to run each, come out, spend a short time praising them and giving treats, then hand them off, practice jump and finish warming up the next and go back into the ring.
