We'd watched Annie Laurie's hindquarters weaken over the summer. Between age and arthritis, she has so much less strength. So after seeing how well Layla did in rehab with the underwater treadmill, we started looking for a facility nearer than an hour an a half away!
We found the Northern Virginia Animal Aquatic Center just 30 minutes away. After consulting with the owner, Roger, we brought Annie out. Roger's been swimming dogs and horses for more than 20 years. He explained the process and what we could expect.
Annie was amazing! Although she's never thrilled to enter the water, once in, she has marvelous form and swims for about 15 minutes, with breaks. We're seeing slow improvement, mostly in her pep. She always wears a flotation device, and she's tethered to Roger, her coach. We're thinking of entering her in the next Senior Olympics!!
