Ok, so the USDAA Regionals are coming up soon. I took first in Performance Speed Jumping(steeplechase) last year in May so I know I qualify for the Triathlon according to their site - http://mida-agilityshowcase.com/triathlon.html but I have not yet had a Q in either PSJ or Grand Prix in the qualifying period for the Regional competition. The qualifying period started August 19th, 2011. So I've assumed all this time that I have to qualify BEFORE the regional competition in Performance Grand Prix and/or Performance Speed Jumping in order to do that part at the regionals. I know I can still do all the other classes, just not those until I qualify. So I've been waiting very impatiently for their site to be updated. Their site says it would have the test schedule on Feb 2nd at the latest and here it is Feb 9th with no test schedule - http://mida-agilityshowcase.com/

So I looked on USDAA's website and they have the classes lined up but no test schedule. But something struck me as weird - http://www.usdaa.com/events_detail.cfm?event_no=104979 here:

Grand Prix of Dog Agility - Local Qualifier Bozak, David
Performance Grand Prix - Local Qualifier Bozak, David
Dog Agility Steeplechase® - Local Qualifier - Rd 1 Bozak, David
Performance Speed Jumping - Local Qualifier - Rd 1 Bozak, David

That is part of what is on that page. So does that mean that they will have one more chance at a local qualifier? Or do they mean that you still have to qualify before this regional and that's just the first round?

Sorry for the long winded question, but to me it seems like I would have one more chance to qualify if I don't qualify at an upcoming competition. I hate waiting for people :o

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Yes, you can run in the local qualifier to qualify to run in the regional competition. Check with the trial secretary before you send in your entry, because I think you may need to send a separate check for the regional so that they only cash it if you qualify. :eek2:

Thanks! Yeah I read that part about including a separate check and then they'll just destroy the check if you don't qualify, but I read that in a different premium and that one didn't include a local qualifier.

Can I add on this here too. I'm sorry, USDAA doesn't explain a darn thing.

There are 11 different regionals (some don't make sense, i.e. southwestern, northwester, western - um, western sums up the first two). Who gets to go to the Championships? The people who win the 11 regionals?

This is from the Steeplechase/Perfromance Speed Jumping Tournament Rules:

Eligibility for Entry:

Regional Championships: A competitor must have one qualification at a local qualifier to be eligible to enter Round 1 of a Regional Championships.

World Championship Quarterfinals: Two qualifications, one of which be from the first round of a Regional Championship will be required for entry.

World Championship Semifinals: Advancement from the quarterfinals by earning the equivalent of a qualifying score or by direct entry into the semifinal by having earned a ‘bye’ at a Regional Championship.

I'm not certain exactly what is required to earn a 'bye' at the Regional, but I know some people who've done it. I'll try to remember to ask. I think it probably has something to do with placements.

Another interesting 'quirk' is that you can try to qualify at more than one Regional. For example, Phebe earned a PSJ Q at a trial here 1/28/2011. I'm planning to enter her in the Rocky Mountain Regional in Albuquerque the last weekend in April. If we don't qualify for World, we could try again at one of the other Regionals. We probably won't do that because it's further than I want to travel, but we could. We also have another chance to try to earn a PGP Q in March at a local trial. I'm hopeful, but not counting on it. And, then of course, we could still enter the local PGP qualifier at the Regoinal in April.

I have read that thing so many times. :o How did I miss all that. Oops. Sorry.
