Anybody have cats that live with their Shelties? I have a question..

Our litter boxes are in a large rubber maid container (approx 3' tall and over 4' long) in the walk-in shower in the guest bathroom. The cats jump over to use the facilities, and the dogs can't get to it there. They have successfully cleared out a hooded kitty litter box...so I don't think those work. We keep their food dishes on top of a rolling cabinet near the washer and dryer. We store the dog food in the bottom of this cabinet, and the kitties use the top for their food and water dishes. When Gracie decides she doesn't want something we've given her, she knocks it to the floor for the dogs.

See I ca'nt use a gate,to keep Bumper in the bedroom, plus it is not fair to her to be sequestered in one room.As she is used to full roam of the house.

A blind cat will not manuver over a gate. It's just thier nature not to,as they cannot tell how high they are,or what it is they are facing. When she uses her kitty condo, and it is 4' high, she will come down the highest point backwards.

I have a friend whose cat has gone blind and would jump over the baby gate- they were getting ready to move and had taken the gate down and the cat still jumped as if the gate were still there- no pix or vid though- would have been cool to see :wink2:

I have two litter boxes and the food for the cats in the basement. Maddie knows she is not allowed down there and she never has gone down. The other litter box is upstairs in the hall bathroom. As long as I keep the door opened a crack, enough for the cats to slip in, Maddie won't go in. If the door is left wide open, then she "cleans" the box for me.

I have a really big framed cat. He only weighs in at 13lbs, but he is really long and we had alot of problems in a "normal" litter box with him pooping over the side of it so I had to get a huge one that has really high sides and is quite a bit larger and we have not had that problem anymore. I did see the boxes today with the cover and hole in the top so I think that is going to be my first plan of attack so we will see if he will go for it or not. I try to scoop as much as I can, but he is a extremely thorough burier so unless I see or hear him in the box I can only do it on a normal schedule.. He was already checked out for the smell and nothing is wrong with him. His pee just really stinks!

You could always teach your cat how to use a human toilet - my sisters cat sits on the toilet, only thing she cant do is flush.
