Autumn shedding?

It is autumn here and one of my two shelties is shedding in a big way, just like she does in spring. I haven't experienced this previous autumns, and it's only happening with one of my dogs (both are female and spayed). Is it normal for this to happen in autumn at times, or could there be some other reason for it?

yeah, Deska is shedding a storm too. I think the difference is in Spring they shed undercoat and in Autumn they are more likely shed guard hairs to make way for undercoat. I know Deska is leaving behind trails of long fur on everyone's clothes during his therapy visits, doesn't matter how much I brush. Tully isn't shedding at all - she just seems to grow in more and more coat and not lose it, which I think is bad because it gets thicker and denser every year.

My girls have always blown coat in spring and big time in fall when living in CO...Since CO can have Indian summers, it could be delayed, but on those yrs it happened fast & furious. And I always puppy cut them for summer survival, but by December you would never know they had been sheared on their hindparts.

Thanks Caro and tesslynn... good to hear your experiences. We moved interstate in January, and the different climate might have something to do with why it's happening now and not previous autumns. Interesting how each dog can have a completely different thing going on with their coat.

My last dog , male , always had his big annual blow out in the fall and a month or so later would start coating up for winter. His spring shed was very minimal. This pup is too young to know what he will do. Out females growing up seemed to do a big shed in spring and small shed in fall
