Bacca freaks out!

Ok, you all know my Eeyore. Calm, placid Bacca. Just goes through life saying "dum de dum de hum....yadda, yadda, whatever!"

Well I had him in my store today to be groomed. Jackee had done a prelim brushing, bathed him and turned the high velocity dryer on him to blow out the coat. Bacca went ape!

I was serving a customer when I could hear Bacca SCREAMING in the back. I resisted the urge to drop everything, but it persisted. I finally went back and Bacca was in full fledged panic attack. He was so violent, I could barely hold him still, and thought he was getting ready to bite. Even I could not calm him down. We took him off the table and he circled and circled desperate to get out.

When he finally calmed down enough, I left him with the groomer. I did not want to reinforce this with my presence. She put him in the crate with a regular dryer for abit, then brought him back out. A little bit later, I heard the high velocity dryer going again, but no more screaming from Bacca. Seems my groomer eased him back to it gradually.

I know my last groomer commented that Bacca was a little freaked out the high velocity dryer as well. But Jackee groomed Bacca 5 weeks ago, no problem.

Jackee thinks that somewhere along the line, a groomer blasted him in the face with the dryer at high speed. And now whenever you go near his head with that dryer he freaks. She said he was fine when she gradually reintroduced it to him.

So....memo to file....whenever you get your dog groomed make sure you get a report card of his behaviour. This is really helpful info to the next groomer who does your dog.

btw - despite Bacca screaming, I actually managed to book another grooming appointment for a lady with a Chihuahua. I guess when I told her that that was my dog hollering, she thought ok, if the owner is ok, then she would be too. Chi is getting done tomorrow!
