I'm very excited! I just ordered a starter agility set for my backyard. We were going to intermediate obedience, but poor Pogo absolutely hated it!! He didn't like being there and he started regressing so bad that he wouldn't even sit. So, if he's not having fun, it just isn't worth it.

I know he enjoyed the agility part of his beginner obedience, so I thought he would like this "playground equipment". I thought I could get him used to it before I signed him up for the actual class-to gauge his interest in agility. Also, I'm adopting a border collie pup (I get to pick him up close to Christmas) and I thought I needed to get an agility set since I have two breeds that do well in that. That and I'm hoping to build some confidence in Pogo-he's still so insecure in himself. :(
 
I'm having the same problem with Ella now, but honestly I feel that the obedience is worth it because they will be doing tons of off-leash stuff now with the dogs.

Even though she doesn't like it, she needs the off-leash guidance. I see agility dogs run when we are at the playgroup and there are two of them that are ok at agility, but TERRIBLE off-leash, and half the class is spent trying to get the two of them back on the course after vering off to snag some treats, sniff a dog, etc.

So don't just give up on the obedience all together. Ella sometimes puts the brakes on and doesn't want to go, but if you do it enough, she'll just do it and get the idea.

Also, moreover for me, she may act up at class, but I can take what I learned in class and do it when I get home, where she learns the most.

Also, where did you get the agility set from? Can you give me the link?
 
Last year I bought agility equipment through www.jefferspet.com during their 12 Days of Christmas sale. On each of the 12 days, one item is offered at a very reduced price. This year the date for the agility set is December 8th. They have 300 sets available and they sell it for $129.00 (regular price is $249.75) plus shipping (FOB 54 lbs.). It includes an open tunnel, a closed tunnel/chute, a jump bar, a tire jump and a set of weave poles. It was well worth my investment and it might be something you could check out on line to see if you have any interest in it. The only other thing you need to know is that if you do plan to order one on that day, go online as close to 10 a.m. CST as you can since they generally sell out the items they have discounted each day. I have ordered many other things from them and have always been satisfied. P.S. Nope, don't work for Jeffers, just spend my money there getting things for Spencer.:rolleyes2:
 
my sheltie skyler does not care for obedience classes either, but my son still takes him to his 4-h ob. classes every year. he wouldnt even eat a treat while there. he has slowly started to progress to where he doesnt mind being there. he still isnt real happy but he does listen now, and will eat treats. I wouldnt give up on ob. just try and make it more positive. as for agility equipment it looks like a nice starter kit! my husband made all of my stuff. we have 2 bar jumps, a tire jump, 6 weave pole, and a teeter. hopefully this spring I want to have him make a pause table maybe some double and triple jumps, and I also want to start adding more poles to my weave pole set. I would love to have a dog walk and a-frame and both the tunnels but we are running out of room in our yard :lol: I think I need to buy a new house with a bigger yard!! :winkgrin:
