Baker forgot how to listen?

Hoping this is normal...Baker is 21 weeks old today - thinks it's a game when I call him to come - either come to go out or come to go in...so very frustrating!!! We did the "jackpot" of treats when he came on command for the last few weeks. Now he has decided he isn't interested...

I was mortified this afternoon when I couldn't catch him to come in after a run in the fenced yard and had to ask hubby to go get him

I'm the one that trained Trace - got his RE and CD titles - he was my rock star!

Want to cry when simply putting Baker on a leash to go outside turns into a chase game with him...:gaah

Odin will do this sometimes outside. Run off a little then hide under the deck or worse the pine trees. He's been a lot better for me about it but not so much for anyone else. One thing that worked fairly well was turning on the hose and giving a little squirt when he was way under the deck. After a few times he seems to have gotten the hint that under the deck = terrible thing that makes me wet lol. Also I leave the leash hooked up in case I do have to get him. Makes it much easier to catch him and gets him used to the leash and his harness.
As far as cubby is concerned it's probably just a phase. Keep up with the treats and such and he'll get it.

Welcome to teenage years. They forget how to listen and basically all the training goes out the doors for a few months. Just keep at it for a while and practice it any time you can. His mind will eventually come back over time.

I agree, go back to step one - when you first started teaching the come. But this time, if he is not interested in treats, try a toy or something else he really likes. If he doesn't want to come in when you call, try leaving him out for a little longer than he wants to be there. (provided its totally safe)

Zulu is going through the same phase. I keep telling myself, patience and this too will pass!
:gaah

Cubby hit that phase a few weeks ago, though he has never played chase, just refusal to come watching something, sniffing something, etc. Our yard is not that exciting. He was like that a week or two and got better.

We're there, too. We had made so much progress with not being reactive, not pulling on the leash, and now it's like he's completely deaf to me.

I have an easy-walk harness on order that should get to me this week. I'm hoping that will help me redirect his attention.

At least we can all get through it together, right? Lol

Thanks everyone. Baker is being very independent, but I am winning the game because I am keeping him leashed more often - easier to catch. We are working on "come" like it's a new concept and he is at least trying. On the positive, he did do much better at his sit-stay & down-stay work this weekend.

The little stinker fell asleep in my arms tonight - making it so hard to stay angry with his behavior...or should I say misbehavior.
