Barking and Apartments...

Somehow my immediate neighbors have grown to like Gavin barking :D
I guess they are used to it? Anyway, they know if I'm not home and they go up or down the stairs, Gavin will bark a bit. Same for the UPS man. He barks at things, so if there is nothing worth barking at he is quiet. Maybe him being a cute fluffy Sheltie has something to do with it! He does love saying hi to all my neighbors when I have him out for his walk, and is a very friendly guy. I swear, when I'm gone and Gavin is being boarded, everyone misses him!

We don't live in an apartment but we do have the barking issue too. When she hears or sees the kids playing ball or skate boarding. I have put pillows on the chair so she can't watch for them out the window. We also keep the radio or tv on in hopes she doesn't hear them. We crate her during the day b/c she goes insane at them if we are not there to stop her. The odd thing is she does not bark at all in her crate, even though you can still clearly hear them outside. If you find a solution please share!

So far, they've done really well. I'm amazed how quiet this building is. It's an older, 1920s, 12-plex. The walls are much more insulated than our previous house which was build in the '70s. We've been keeping them busy with their raw hides, but they have only barked a handful of times. We put a sign on the door asking people not to knock and leave a note under the door should they need something. We're on the second floor so we don't have to worry about the windows too much. Fingers crossed it stays this good! LOL
