Barking and being a service dog

Responsible for their territory. To alert their human or to generally scare off suspicious activity. Mine would bark at people walking on the sidewalk in front of the house, or to the front door. If I was out in the back yard, they would notify me that the phone was ringing. Their hearing was amazing. They never really barked just for the sake of barking. When we were other places, I guess they didn't feel that it was their job.

I guess that makes sense thanks for the feedback. I suppose if you have a busy life with lots of uncertain things happenening to a sheltie they may bark more than you'd like. In your experience can you train them not to bark when a specific thing happens like phone rings no bark or people walking by don't bark etc

Kayla- Minnie (3 year) has none of these jobs, but she's with me wherever I can bring her.

When she has a leash on so she never bark of anything - I've never really thought about it

When we are at the beach and my grandchildren bathes, she is so annoying, she runs back and forth
bark and bark, of course, because of her herding instinct - but so annoying.
There are also other than us on the beach to bathe

- A few weeks ago, I said: "come and get your leash on."
Then it did not take 1 min, so by herself she sat down quietly beside me, focusing on them in the water all the time - what an enjoyment

I have never actually thought of it before, this leash has obviously a great importance on whether
she has the responsibility or it is me

-I think over time you can teach your baby that when it has the work harness on - so no barking.

Wow thanks so much for the feedback shelties seem like they are really close bond with their humans so I think I'd have no problems teaching no bark when the harness is on
