Barking voice?

One short bark means "come" as in let me out or fill up my water dish.
Loud barking means don't you dare walk out that door.
Loud shrill barking means "warning" there is a garbage truck out there.
Loud shrill barking with an inserted yodel an "oolooloo" means "danger" unidentified activity out there.
Grrrr's are a whole other story.

Yes, there are really many different kinds of barking, and as others also write
everyone has a meaning - they do not just bark to bark
Minnie's mostly irritating bark - "hurry up - we have to go out for a walk - now!!!!:gaah
The most impressive barking is when she sounds like a Great Dane :hide

then I know an unauthorized person is entering the garden gate,
they are so surprised that is a small dog - that they are standing completely still
with Minnie standing 3-4 meters ahead of them barking until I come - that´s my girl :biggrin2:

Deska definitely had a bigger, deeper bark than Tully, and he was twice her size. Pretty sure my other Shelties (all large males) also had bigger barks.

I'm still getting used to no barking. Have to go buy a doorbell because there's no insane barking to tell me there's someone coming down the drive. That was always the loudest barking, together with the storm barking. Heck there's a thunderstorm atm and Tully is still deciding if she should bark at it. She will, however, bark to tell me to play.

I'm afraid Deska was one of those Shelties who just loved the sound of his own bark and would invent things to bark at.
