if only i had read this before this morning! i gave Gordon his breakfast today with the hopes of quietly brushing him while he ate. Well! he is so smart that as soon as he saw the grooming bag with me he backed away from his pen (where he eats) and just sat and waited for me to put the brush down and call him before he came back in to eat. He did this a couple of times and eventually he ate his breakfast while i softly brushed him ( more like patted him with a brush) he never fully entered the pen he had half his body hanging out the door! next time ill coax him with small amounts so he doesn't feel the need to scoff and run off. i really want brushing to be a bonding thing with us even if i can't get matts out and get under his belly. At this point i'm almost happy to pay a groomer to deal with the hard stuff and keep the soft brushing as "our" thing. But ideally i'd like to do it all with him and have him enjoy it.
