Best Advice Given

OK, here is the best advice (trialling or otherwise) I have ever been given:

No matter which dog you bring, some days you just brought the wrong dog.

Neechee had many trials in which I brought the wrong dog. I eventually named him "Big Billy Bada**." He quite coming to trials with us quite so often when Neechee got the big snip. However, he did create some havoc at home with such disasters as shredding an entire box of kleenex and other lovely acts of defiance.

Mine was, "pretend you're training when out on the field and have fun". Another was, "don't worry, it'll all come together one day".

I have to admit, I never thought it would, so when it all did, it's when Koji and I started to really have fun with it.

The best compliment I ever got though was this, "I love watching you run, because you laugh when you screw up and apologize to Koji mid-run". LMAO. Which is exactly what I do (I just never realized people could hear me that clearly, lol). That was from someone just starting and I told them, "it's more important to have fun in the ring than it is to Q". Hopefully, that's their best piece of advice early on.

Best Advice

I have never brought the wrong dog!I have always brought the best dog to a trial and home again!!

You may have physically brought the right dog, but his or her mental attitude wasn't what it should have been, I didn't mean LITERALLY!!! LOL

When I was actively trialling, I had a Sheltie and a Border Collie. Every so often, one of them would have a meltdown and the spirit of Big Billy Bada** would take over one or both of them.

But we always had fun, the dogs and I were well-prepared, and some days no matter what, you just don't do well.

Oh, and things could be going excellent in the Novice ring, and we'd be in the running for 1st place, when during the long sit or down Big Billy would suddenly possess whatever dog I was running, and cause the dog to do something totally out of character and completely NQ us!

That reminds me, I was also told that I need to remember that at the end of the day, I'm bringing the best dogs home.

I remind myself of this at every trial. It helps me to get past the frustration that I feel when we have a bad run or a bad day. I wouldn't trade my dogs for the best agility shelties in the world--they are mine and I love them, challenges and all!
