Hi I have a 9 month old Sheltie pup who is currently on Frontline for her flea and tick medication. I was looking through a magazine and noticed that K9 Advantix does the same thing as frontline, but is also good for repelling/killing mosquitoes. Is the K9 Advantix ok for use on our Shelties? I would really like to switch her to it next month as I live in a area that is HIGHLY concentrated with mosquitoes in the summer months. I currently have her on Interceptor for heartworm so I am not very concerned with her getting that, but I know how bad the skeeters bother me so I can only imagine how she feels while she is out running around. Thanks!

As long as it doesn't have that chemical (I forgot what it's called) that Collies and Shelties can't have.
We use Advantage on Smoke, it is the same as Advantix but without the bit that kills ticks. I have not heard of either product causing issues in Shelties, as long as they aren't allowed to ingest it.
Ivermectin? Thats not in Advantix, but a derivative of it is in Advantage Multi.

We use Advantage Too
We've always used Advantage, first for our cats and now for our dogs. Our vet sells it to us so I assume its safe. My parents have been using it on their sheltie for the last 7 years with no ill effects. It does not contain anything for mosquitos or ticks though.

I live in an area that is surrounded by alot of woods so I am really concerned about ticks, as well as mosquitoes.. It is not even the season for them and they are getting ridiculous already. I just gave Cali the last dose of Frontline that I had last night so I guess next month I will give the K9 Advantix a try. I just wanted to make sure that there was not something in the ingredients that could be harmful to my girl!
I personally use on my sheltie Shadow K9 Advantix because it also helps with the ticks.I have had no problem with it all. I live where Lyme's disease is named after. In East Lyme Conn.

The mosquitoes drive Cali crazy when we go out for her evening potty.. Everytime she gets herself situated, she will go crazy trying to get one off of her back.

poor puppy! Mosquitos are such a nuisance!
Ticks are pretty much none existant where I am and mosquitos aren't too bad but if we were to go up North (northern ontario) I'd definitely get something for mosquitos!
