Black spots in groin area

So Koji has had these black spots in his groin area. I checked, it's not flea dirt. It won't even come off his skin unless I pick at it. It's in the soft area around his penis and even on the tip of his penis. I tried to get a picture, but it's not easy. Click here to see a blurry pic.

A few months ago, it was worse. More like flea dermatitis and I made sure he was flea free (as much as possible) and I since it was flaky, I put some neosporin on it and it cleared up, mostly. I also forgot about it (oops).

Lastly, he has a dark black spot right in the entrance of his penis. Obviously he doesn't like me poking around too much, so I can't tell what it is, but as far as I can recall or tell, it's not part of his skin.

Thoughts? I am travelling soon so I can't take him to the vet and I don't think it's irritating him too much (he's not biting/licking constantly, only when he comes in and is wet from the rain).
 
I don't have an answer for you, but if you don't get one by the time you are back from your travels, I would make an appointment with your vet. Good luck and I hope you find out something soon.
 
Bacca had those same spots in the groin and belly

He had two conditions - hypo thyroid and liver condition.

It became impossible to distinguish one cause from the other at the end.

But I would test your baby with both....a complete blood work

As for giving him comfort in the meantime.....I discovered Dizaoral You will find it in the dandruff section of your pharmacy. Water it down. It will reduce the itch without adding more fungal.....whatever you do....don't wash your dog in oatmeal shampoo. It will make it worse.

Gavin has this.
It gets worse when he can't keep himself clean down there (like having to wear a cone for 3 months).
I keep the fur around his privates trimmed, which helps.
baby wipes once a week while doing the rest of the grooming also help.
I think I read it is probably a yeast related thing. Gavin doesn't have any inflammation, flakiness, etc. He has had multiple blood panels, no kidney or thyroid issues.

Since his vet and multiple vet techs sees him spread eagle every day for radiation treatment and have never said anything, I don't worry.

Barb - thank you for the suggestion. I'll see if I can find Dizaoral. Poor thing seems to be worse. I'm going to check again tonight to make sure it's not fleas. I know the vet said last time his bloodwork looked fine, but I'm going to see when the last time I ran a panel, just to make sure. Why does oatmeal make it worse? Do you know?

Cindy - does what you do, keeping it clean, help with him biting/licking the area? I'll see if that helps too.
 
Gavin doesn't bite or lick excessively down there.
He is a dog so he does lick some, of course.
