Bombers Skin Condition

Hi everyone,
I'm still new to the forums, but a few of you have already asked about the skin issues on my little rescue boy bomber, so here is what I know of it so far:
(BTW: Big thanks to Chris and Ashley for already being on the ball about ideas for this.)

Bomber was taken to a local vet by the breeder as a very young pup because he was loosing hair on his face and legs. They checked all the usual suspects... no mange, etc... All they could say was that it wasn't contagious, didn't seem to bother him too much, he may or may not grow out of it, and he will almost certainly have scars. After a few visits with no improvement or even the hope of it the breeder decided to have him euthanized. By that time the vet had fallen for this little bugger, and asked her to surrender him instead, and he would see what he could do with him.

Fast Forward a few months... Bomber had been going home with the vet every night and coming back to the office everyday. They've been trying this and that... still no improvement. The vet is approaching retirement and starts looking for a reliable foster for him. He changes hands to a trainer that has him for while, and lists his story and pics on Craigslist.

I had a litter of foster kittens at the time, so I had been trolling Craigslist to find homes for them, I noticed the add... and well, there you are.

We recently took him back to this same veterinary office, but his vet is now gone, and as I mentioned in another post, did not keep very thorough records on a surrender case. So we went ahead and had him neutered (yeah, I told him Bob Barker made me do it.... I think he's buying it for now :rolleyes2:) but no official diagnosis on his condition. They did say that he was looking worlds better since the last time they saw him, but not much else.

Corbinam: You mentioned the possibility of DM, do you think this is something that they would have checked for?

Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated.

I honestly don't know a lot about DM...maybe someone more experienced, or one of our vets could chime in.

There is some good information available on the internet, and most sites will link to great resources who could help you out.

I do know that DM is pretty specific to collies/shelties, and so not all vets know about it.

One good indication of the disease is that the dog has a bald tail tip.
