Bouncie..bounce like a kangaroo

Michele the more I read about Blake, the more I laugh. Diva and Birch did exactly the same thing.:smile2: You know they are related?:wink2:

Diva especially bounced up and down like she was on a pogo sitck for months. I really didn't do anything as long as she was in heel position(which shhe was 90% of the time) I just ignored it and I praised or clicked when she all 4 feet on the ground. She eventually stopped leaping up(my instructor said she would) but always have that little bounce to her step. The worse thing that you want to do at his age is make heal position not a fun place to be. Birch only bounce for a small amount of time like the first week or 2 and then he got the idea that 4 on the floor gets praise.

Ok,so if I am reading this,so long as he is in heel position it will work out? Yes he looks like he is on a pogo stick.,It was the word I was looking for when I originially posted.Cause it looks just like that.
Shelli,he jump past my hips...I mean straight up. Sometimes he does it from just standing on all 4's.

I am rewarding all the time for being at least lose in a heel position. My pockets even in the house have something of a tid bit. And he is learning to watch me.
I will continue to work & give praise when all 4 are on the ground, and keep the heeling a fun thing to do.

To keep him at least in an acceptable heel (only cause he is so squirrley & puppishness)...I am walking with him,and using the treat or toy as the reward. He is learning to tug as well.

Shelby jumps like a pogo stick too. She now only does it when we play and allow it. But she can jump vey high several feet. Our angel Hollie would jump right into our arms when we would come home. She would run across the house and fly through the air. You better be ready to catch her or she would fall to the floor. I really miss that:(

This must be a bi-black thing. We're back in obedience class after a 5 month hiatus, and we're working on heeling and loose leash walking. Missy bounces the whole time we're trying to do loose leash walking. My trainer gave me a few tips, since she's naturally bouncy dog, so we're going to be doing some hardcore training before the next class on Tuesday. I think Missy is going through that phase where she's decided to forget everything she learned!

not just a biblack thing:winkgrin:
Dixie (mahogany sable) is a bouncer when we heel- I've been told that we can work on that- but haven't yet.....

Epic does this too! Neither of the other shelties have ever launched themselves like he does - all four feet straight up. I could catch him but never had the nerve.

In heeling this was something I just ignored - having had a dog who was difficult to motivate (Revel) in heelwork I was pleased to have this display of enthusiasm so I didn't correct it but I didn't reward him for jumping. (Read that as tried not to as admittedly sometimes the click coincided with a jump!) and it's far less frequent now as his focus has improved.

He does it a lot in front of me so I'm putting a cue to it (pop) - who knows it might be useful!

Yes- it's very difficult to click at the right time when your dog is a as bouncy as mine is... which is why we're going to have to start literally, one step at a time.
