Breathable dog booties

Deska is having a lot of problems walking, and after ruling out numerous other issues, we're now thinking it's a paw pad problem. We're in summer here and I think the surface heat is hurting his feet. He had problems with one paw last summer, so it's probably an ongoing issue that flares up in summer.

I have some booties that I used in winter when he had to stand around (he won't walk in them). But winter booties don't let his feet breathe and his feet get sweaty if I put them on in summer.

Does anyone know of booties that will allow his foot to breathe? Ones that aren't too cumbersome, he has arthritis in his elbows and I don't want his gait to shift by having bulky booties.

I would suggest the Musher's Secret instead of boots. If that doesn't help then you should probably keep looking for another cause as the Musher's Secret is very effective for preventing discomfort on hot pavement. Our veterinary chiropractor recently explained to me that dogs have nerves in their paws that assist with balance and body awareness. As such, boots should be reserved for very specific situations like escalator rides and even then the time they are worn should be minimized to prevent injuries from missteps.

Maybe socks? The ones I sell have non slip on the bottom. Enough maybe to lift the fit off hot ground. But not too heavy for warm climates.

Also we sell wax that you can put on the pads to protect. We use this here in the great white nor th to protect against salt, but it may he help against hit soil too????

Thanks Barb, that's exactly what I ended up doing. I couldn't find any dog socks though, so I improvised with baby socks, hat elastic and some non slip plasticy stuff on the bottom. The seem to be holding up, although like all socks the bottom twists around to the top so I have to keep repositioning them. He's gotten so bad that I'm taking a stroller with me as well. We haven't had a day below 30 celsius for weeks (and most days around 35C) and the nights hover around 25C so the ground has gotten really hot.
