Hi Everyone- we recently went on vacation and left our sheltie, Henry, with my mother-in-law. When we picked him up after we got back, my MIL mentioned these bumps on the top of his head, thinking maybe they were ticks. My husband saw that they were not ticks but were hard, little scabby bumps all over the top of his head. There were a number of new experiences for Henry recently, some of which I think could have caused these bumps: 1. He went to a groomer for the first time. 2. He swam in a pond at a camp. 3. He played around with much bigger dogs. 4. He may have been in buggier areas than he normally is.
They have appeared to scab over, but they were just so unusual, isolated to just the top of his head, and he has never had them there before. He is an allergic dog with sensitive skin, but he's always had issues on his underside, not his head.
Has anyone experienced this before, and if so, what did you do to take care of it? I should mention that Henry's other skin issues have been managed/controlled since I switched to lamb/grain-free, started giving him fish oil, probiotics, and Vet's Best seasonal allergy tabs (a natural anti-histamine). So, the appearance of these bumps make me think that it was some minor injury as opposed to allergies. He does scratch at them. Thoughts?
