about a month or so ago we had a problem with my girl with a "lump" on her lower jaw. We took her into the vet and by that time the swelling was gone and everything seemed a-ok.. I have been a bit weirded out since then and I am constantly checking her jaw and every once in a while she will have a bit of a "lump" on her lower jaw.. It feels like the jawbone itself is swollen but it will go down and disappear just as fast as it showed up. Sometimes it will feel like it is not on the bone but on the fleshy part of her lower jaw. I have noticed that her collar has a pretty big metal clasp on it and I am thinking that maybe it could be from her collar swinging and hitting her chin time after time while she is running. It definately is loud while she is running with her tags swinging and the collar fits her a bit big so I am hoping that this is the culprit. I have taken it off of her for atleast a few days to see if her jaw will swell back up or not. I am assuming that it is nothing serious like a tumor or anything because of the swelling and then disappearing within a day or so. She is a very active puppy and shows no fear of injuring herself so she goes full blast no matter what she is doing. Anybody else have any experience with this? The collar is a rolled leather collar, but I think it may be sized a bit big for her as its on the smallest setting and I can almost slip it over her head still.. Anybody? I am worried something may be wrong with her!

I forgot to mention in my first post..

There is no pain what so ever to anything on her jaw.. Bump/Lump or just her jaw in general. I really do not think it has anything to do with her teeth as she is only like 15 months old. We really did not keep up on her teeth as a pup because we were not aware of how fast they can go downhill, but now they get brushed 2-3 times a week at the very least. She has a small brown "line" or her long upper tooth (not sure exactly what it is called) but her gums and the rest of her teeth look healthy. There is also no pain or swelling on the gum itself inside of the mouth and no pain/problems while eating.

I don't think I can suggest anything that you haven't already done.

My only question is this, and I really hope that you don't take offense, but are you sure there's really something there? I'm only asking because I myself have been known to pick up on some minuscule imperfection and turn it into something big and worrisome.

If there is something there it is possible that its the collar. But at the same time it makes me wonder, if she'd bruised her jaw on her collar repeatedly you would think that it would be sore to the touch, but you say that it doesn't hurt her at all.

If it was something to do with her teeth then I'd think that would hurt also.

If its not hurting her and its not getting worse then you could leave it. Personally, that would just about drive me crazy since I'm a big worrier so you could keep trying to schedule vet appointments when you notice its swollen. Perhaps if you remind your vet of whats going on he/she will make an allowance and squeeze you in that day.

Sorry if I'm not much help, let us know how she's doing!

Yeah I know I am definitely being a worry wort as usual. The bump/lumps are definite there and its just hard to pinpoint exactly what is causing them. I am going to leave the collar off of her for a few days just to see if it flares back up or not.. I have no clue!
