Barb - you don't need to commit to going as far as trials. You can just take the boys to the training classes, once a week, so they can learn new skills and have fun with you.
Once you get far enough along, you may be able to find places that offer run thrus. (Practice runs on full courses and they are only a few hours, 1 or 2, long and a limited number of "runs". Ours, for example, are Friday night from 7 - 8 and most dogs get 3 runs.)
