Canine Agility of Central Minnesota Trial

I just wanted to report on our agility weekend in St. Cloud MN. I have been going to this trial for 3 yrs and it has always been a great experience. Many friends and canine family members in attendance. Diva and her brother Dexter and Ember and her 2 sisters Dutchie and Bella plus Justice's sister Sunday and brother Tripp. Brought Birch along for exiperence and he did great.

Sat was nice but humid. Thunderstorms in the forecast but we didn't see a drop all day. Started the day with Diva in Novice FAST. I have never run FAST before so I was abit distracted trying to figure out what I was doing and forgot the video camera. Wouldn' you know it Diva almost perfect. We got 77 out of 80 points when the buzzer went off and lost 5 ponts getting out. But as we were running out Diva did the 3 point jump(own her own) excuting a perfect serpentine to the finish. SO really if she hadn't got sticky on the teeter she would have had a perfect run. As it was 1st leg, 1st place and most points of any Novice dog.

Next Diva was up in Excellent A Standard. COurse was nice and flowing and included 2 tunnel traps that ironicly Diva failed horrible in practice last Mon. Well she did great and got her 1st AX leg and 1st place.

Next was Ember also in Ex A Std. Ember ran really nice. The tunnels really reved her up. So much that she decided she wanted to do more tunnels and she got sucked into the tunnel and dropped a bar in her definance. Despite the off couse she still finished 3 secs under course time. BUt alas NQ

Last run on Sat was Diva in Open JWW. Another good run and DIva's OAJ title and 2nd place.

Sunday was also a clear sunny day to start with. Alittle warmer than Sat but not a muggy. Diva played really hard Sat night and I think was a little tired. Novice FAST was first. I missed the walk though because of Ex std so made my plan from the map. Luckily the course was easy to get the points. Really I felt it was almost too easy. Diva got her 2nd leg with 68 points and first place but unlike Sat where I had to work for those points, my path, was mindless. Disappointing. http://youtu.be/iXWgJ_lcRkA

Next up was Ember in Ex Std. Ember was grumpy and hot. I did a little lead out because I had to with the flow of the course but Ember hates that and started really slow. It was a tight twisting course and I had a hard time getting Ember to go. I thought no way she was going to make time but I kept pushing her and she finished clean. She ended up Qing for her 2nd AX leg with only 0.02 secs to spare. Wheew Beggers can't be chosers. :biggrin2:

Diva had a nice run in Ex Std but I could spit the word weave out and mumble something and Diva head checked and missed the enterance. Sad part was had I shut my mouth Diva would have hit it on her own. :(

Last run of the day was Diva first time in Ex JWW. Of course, about 10 minutes before our run a fast moving storm moved in and it started raining. Thought about pulling but went ahead. Diva did well until her spyied the teeter sitting outside the ring and she passed a jump. Oh well. I was please with her effort. http://youtu.be/fSiwzB_LMH4

Overall, very happy Met my goals Diva's OAJ and a ex leg for both Diva and Ember. :smile2:

I loved watching the girls on the same course--cool to see their different running styles (though you're right, Ember was definitely in the groove!) I liked how they both rocketed to the last jumps because they knew where they were going.

Congrats on Diva's OAJ title, that was a really nice run! When she gets confident about where she's going, she really moves!!

I can't believe you ran FAST (and Qd) without walking the course. That makes me anxious just thinking about it. Awesome job.

Despite Ember being slow, she handled nicely. A RC to the chute like that is not easy. Just curious--why do you think she hates lead outs? :confused2: I often wonder what our pups are thinking.

Anyways, congrats on your nice weekend!

Yes Diva can really move. I admit she is a bit handler impaired and if I could move better and I was more confident she would do better. I have really worked on my distance with her because I realized a long time ago that I would not be able to run with her. But I am working that, start my new life style change and lost 8 lbs this first week! Going to use these videos as motivation as man I look big.:(

I have no idea what Ember hates lead outs I suspect it relates to pressure she does like me being to close(to the jumps or the weaves) to her when she runs. I don't know I have given up trying to figure out why Ember does the things she does and I just go with what makes her happy. Works for us. :smile2:
