Can't do "down"

"Puppy Pushups"? Sit-down-sit-down-sit-down-sit-down-sit-down. High value treats to start. Have sit. Lure to down--treat straight down between dog's paws and make an L shape before release treat to dog. Repeat exercise daily. Slowly fade the lure.

Blaze almost looks like I'm saying "Hit the Deck" with his little lured downs. Though I bet I'm going to have trouble getting a down from a stand (or using the usual "on leash placing of down"--foot on leash and slowly shortening leash until dog is down). Can hardly remember how I taught downs from a distance.

let us know if you remember how you did the down from a distance. we couldn't do it this past weekend:rolleyes2:

Might it be something as simple as the dog having the "down" command (in the lure form) done so much each day that when the command is heard again the dog actually knows what is wanted. Maybe it IS a matter of time and repetition (Blaze seems to need that "processing time" before he gets it.) Of course a longline might be used to insure compliance. Honestly it's been so long since have done formal obedience training that I simply can't remember.
