I just had to post how the Carmel show went over the weekend. We were only entered on Saturday and Sunday, as Friday filled. On Saturday, I ripped a contact, and ran half blind, and we pulled off a Q in excellent A standard (now only need 1 Q for our AX), and a Q in excellent B jumpers with weaves (our first MACH points). In standard, Athena really saved my butt, being I could hardly see. We also won the class, and there were quite a few dogs entered. In jumpers, I thought I'd gone off course, and wound up doing some layering. Turns out later we hadn't off coursed, and wound up Qing. The big dogs were constantly doing the layering at that spot in the course, but we were the only 12" dog to even try it, and it worked.
It turns out a friend and I have the same strength of glasses/contacts, and she loaned me her glasses to run with on Sunday (hers are bifocals though, so that was a bit trippy). She really saved me there. Sunday we didn't Q in standard. It was a nice run, however she went and took an off course that wasn't even in the picture. Oh well. Can't win them all. In jumpers, we had a really nice run, and Q'd, giving us our second leg toward our MXJ, and 10 MACH points. It was also her best YPS ever.
I'm still anticipating we'll get faster, as she's still got room to improve on her speed in the weaves, and could've come off the start line faster (LOP was the only logical choice, and at shows, she runs faster if I start with her).
So, not bad. We Q'd in 3 out of 4 runs.
I'm really pleased with how this little dog is doing. She's just such a fun dog to run. Now I feel as if we're actually started on the road to a MACH, considering we have those first points.
