I've seen a couple posts about this. Is this a special type of obedience course? Or is it just regular dog obedience?

There is going to be a dog obedience course being held here at the local vocational school that I'm wanting to take Madi to, but I don't know much about it as they haven't releashed the information yet.

Canine Good Citizen

I don't know a lot about it, but it stands for Canine Good Citizen, I believe its a certificate you can achieve if you want to enrich other people's lives by bringing your dog to a retirement home or home for people with disabilities

Canine Good Citizen is a test that proves that your dog has basic manners and obedience down pat. It's a title that every dog owner should try to achieve with their dog, IMO.
If the dog passes, he is given a CGC tag, a certificate, and the letters "CGC" are placed at the end of his name (that's called a title).
It's hosted by the AKC and K9 Advantix, and is available to all dogs of all breeds, even mixed breeds.

Tiny correction =)

CGC is a certification, not a title such as a CD (Companion Dog), Ch. (Confirmation Champion) or RN (Rally-O Novice). Certifications are not added after a dog's registered name. Once your dog is tested and passes, you can send $5 to AKC for an official certificate. Some evaluators will give patches, tags or bandannas as prizes but most don't. You can order them from AKC's website though. Here:http://www.akc.org/pdfs/cgc/OK9TG3.pdf
But, I am with graydawntreader that all dog owners should get CGC certifications on their dogs or at least try.
