Changes to permissions for signatures

image storage limits

Hi guys...

There is a limit to the number of photos you can post in your premium member photo album. That limit is currently set at 50 pictures or 2500KB for each user. That is an average of 50 photos with a size of 50KB each.<dfn></dfn>

The forum isn't designed to be a photo hosting service like Flickr, so you will have to manage/update the photos you want to have posted if you reach the limit of 50.<dfn>

Why is all of the whitespace compressed out of the signature? Hard to make a cool ascii sig with compressed whitespace ...

I have very mixed feelings!

I understand what SheltieMom , Lauri is saying because Premium members should get extra privilidges, that non-members can't. I just hate seeing people upset enough to want to leave our forum. :( I just wish certain things could get over looked especially for Premium Members. I don't know how to really respond to this issue. I like my signature which includes all my pets past and present , but it can be downsized if needed.

Everything has been put back to normal for premium users.

Regular members can have up to 4 lines in their signature, but no images. (So that wont affect your 3 line signature Elaine.)

Hi Kelly, I can't seem to be able to upload a picture to my signature. On the bottom of the page where it tells me what I can and cannot do, it says no. Is there something I am doing wrong??

Hi Ania,

You don't actually upload an image to your signature, it would be hosted elsewhere. You would ad the path to the image in your signature.

For example, if you right click on Sheltiemom's signature image, you can see it is hosted elsewhere.

However, as I stated earlier, signature lines are not meant for images. That is what your custom avatar up by your user name is for. Signature lines should be just that...a signature. Something simple & short. Yours is already perfect!

A couple of quick questions.

1. Do you have the option of "quick reply" at the bottom of every thread?

2. I don't see any signatures with pictures in them. I'm still confused as to what we can have here or not have?

3. I see some people have different sized fonts in their signature (like Chris, for instance). Can we still do that?

Thank you!

Welcome to the forums myminpins! :biggrin2:

1. You can reply to a thread via the button at the top or bottom of each page of posts. There is no quick reply. You can also use the quote button if you want to post but quote another member's post.

2. We have removed the picture posting option in the signatures. My thought was to try & keep the threads neat & tidy. Long signatures clutter up the forum & make the threads longer than necessary. I encourage folks to keep signature lines under 2-3 lines. Photos are really best for utilized in your member page & also as an avatar. Having photos in signatures and avatars was redundant.

3. There is still latitude with font size. So far folks have not been abusing it, so I have seen no need to limit it...yet. I'd encourage you to just use the default font & use the underline or bold feature if you want to emphasize a point. (Especially in your signature line, since that will be repeated at the end of every one of your posts.)

You may (or may not) have noticed I've been tweaking the permissions in the signature lines for all the users.

Previously there have been no real restrictions on them. As the forum has grown & threads get more lengthy, I've decided to limit the number of lines on a signature to 4, remove font size choice, & remove image insertion permissions.

I'm doing this to keep the thread page count lower, neater & decrease the bandwidth/space needed to continually load large signatures at the bottom of each post. (Besides, long signatures get tiresome after a while and make all the threads longer than they really need to be.)

I hope you all are not too annoyed by this...& sorry if this requires a few of you to modify your signatures to make them more attractive. I'd rather do it now vs. later when the bandwidth/storage issues become more tight & the number of users affected would be higher.

You can still modify font color & use italics to customize your signature.

Thanks!

I completely agree.

At another forum (the Snopes.com message board), they're the same. It makes the threads load so much quicker than other forums who allow unlimited images and lines.)
